Back in Calgary, he works for recruitment and meets nurse Sarah Mann, whose brother David wants to enlist, regardless of his asthma, to win the respect of his girlfriend’s father. Although his vision of the war is negative, Dunne’s finally returns in Europe to protect Sarah’s brother who has succeeded in enlisting despite his medical condition. At the front they meet again and fight in the Battle of Passchendaele that lasted from the end of October to early November, 1917.
