Baird, John Russell, 1969- : John Baird was born on May 26th, 1969 in Nepean, Ontario, and graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies. Before entering federal politics, he was a member of Ontario's provincial legislature, where he represented the constituency of Nepean-Carleton from 1995 to 2005. On January 23, 2006, he won his first election as a Member of Parliament for the riding of Ottawa West-Nepean. Subsequently, Mr. Baird was appointed to the Privy Council as President of the Treasury Board on February 6, 2006, and later successfully ran for re-election in Ottawa West-Nepean in the 2008 Federal General Election. Shortly after, Mr. Baird was sworn in as Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.
