The series contains writings (not musical compositions) by Dan Hill. The writings are mostly related to popular music and the music business, and include: drafts of Dan Hill's monograph titled "Comeback" published by McClelland and Stewart-Bantam Limited (Seal Books) Toronto, 1983; two versions of a movie of Dan Hill's novel "Comeback"; an essay for the music history book "Shakin' All Over: The Rock'n Roll Years in Canada", titled "Massaged by the Media"; his book I Am My Father's Son: A Memoir of Love and Forgiveness; and a short story about a songwriter's experience in Los Angeles. Also included in the series are notebooks containing: drafts of the monograph "Comeback"; a diary of Dan Hill's trip to Japan in 1980 for the Yamaha Music Festival and notes for the soundtrack music to Canadian director Leon Marr's film "Flowers in the Sand". Although the notebooks include mostly writings (not musical compositions), they do contain some lyrics, chord charts and song lists. The series also includes articles related to singer-songwriting and popular music, and an early essay by Dan Hill describing his experiences as a black child and young adult.
