This map depicts the parishes of St. John, St. James, and St. Boniface, in the present-day centre of Winnipeg. It shows dimensions and acreage of lots, land under cultivation, woodlands, swamps, prairie and meadowlands. Buildings, roads and the street layout of the City of Winnipeg also appear.

As is typical of Métis settlements, the land is divided into long and narrow river lots. St. John Cathedral, St. Boniface Cathedral, and St. James Church are indicated, as is Fort Garry (also known as Upper Fort Garry).

The Roman Catholic mission at St. Boniface, founded in 1818, became the first parish of Red River Settlement. The church at St. John's was founded in 1820 and became the first Anglican parish of the Settlement. The Anglican parish of St. James was founded in 1853.
