This map is significant not in itself but for the manuscript features which have been added. C.W. Speers, General Colonization agent used the general map as a base and then colored in the areas of colonization. He also color coded the areas to show the different nationalities that had settled across the prairies. The base map itself is based on a manuscript copy drawn by Surveyor Generals Department in 1885. In revising the map the Department of the Interior have added railroads, Mounted Police stations, Indian reserves, electoral districts and other features. The N.M.C. has two other copies of this map; however, without the manuscript features.
