Map of St. Lawrence Valley from Kingston to Sorel showing the canal system in that region. Also includes railroads and counties. This map was first published in the Annual Report of the Dept. of Railways and Canals for the past fiscal year... in the Sessional Papers, vol. xxviii, no. 7, 1896, and reprinted in each annual report up to 1899. All the editions bear this statement: "Note Soulanges canal, under construction." A very similar map was published in [1900] and reprinted several times. Here, Soulanges Canal is in operation and the note is not on those maps. The Public Archives Library holds 4 uncoloured states of the [1896] edition in: The Sessional Papers, vol. xxix, no. 7, 1896; vol. xxxi no. 7 1897; vol. xxxii, no. 8, 1898; vol. xxxiii, no. 8, 1899. The N.M.C. possesses a small copy of this map in Maps & Documents, Dominion Canals, Dept. of Public Works [1896]. The [1900] edition can be found in: The Sessional Papers, vol. xxxiv, no. 8, 1900; vol. xxxv, no. 8, 1901; vol., xli, no. 8 1906-7.
