This map of North and South America is the second state and was published sometime prior to 1747, when a third state was published. This second state is identical to the first with one exception; "The Great Fishing Bank" off Newfoundland has been added. Neither of these states with plate number 138, have been found in any cartobiliography. They must have been published in a rather substantial atlas however no evidence concerning its identity has yet been found. The third state of the map was published in 1747 in: A Complete System of Geography... and again in 1752 in: A Complete Atlas, both times with the plate no. 51. The third state has such new information as Easter Island, the northwest continuation of the coast of California, "Assempolis L." northwest of Lake Superior, numerous new place names and the Grand Banks. The N.M.C. holds one copy of the first state, one of the second and two of the third.
