The catalogue of additions to the manuscripts in the British Museum, 1876-1881, suggests Grazioso Benincasa, of Ancona, as the author. According to Caortesao, however, Grazioso Benincasa flourished from 1435 to 1482. He also mentions and Andrea Benincasa who lived from 1476 to 1508. The date [1502-1506] has been assigned because the American outline of the map follows the "Kunstmann No.2."
