Dr. Johann Ludwig Tiarks, a German astronomer, worked for for the British government with the International Boundary Commission established according to provisions of the Treaty of Ghent. His papers were acquired by the Manuscript Division and a portfolio of maps was transferred to the N.M.C. All of the maps relate to the work of the Boundary Commission. The classification numbers in this list are abbreviated. The number in brackets preceeding the classification number is the number that has been assigned to the item by the Manuscript Division for purposes of Finding Aid #829.
