The map portrays by means of an alphabetic index the disposition of troops during the disastrous defeat of a British force under Abercromby at the hands of Montcalm. The fort was built by the French in 1755-56 and was named by them Carillon but among the Englich it was known by the Indian name Ticonderoga. The plan is probably from Therby's: Les plans de guerre de sept ans...Frankfurt-am-Main, 1789-91. The NMC has another copy of this map which is coloured completely but lacks the notation "Lit. C. No.11" (See Note 1).
