Collection search - Watermark: I Taylor 1801. Title on verso: "Indian Chart Rocky Mountains". On verso also in ink but in different hand from the title: "Hon Simon Mc Gillivray". Beneath the title but far less clear would appear to be the following: "Made about 70 years ago" [cartographic material]

Writing on recto: in my opinion very similar to that of William Mc Gillivray (in letter to Simon Mc Tavish from Montreal of 4 May 1800). Simon Mc Gillivray was never active in the fur trade (supposedly because of lameness). The Manuscript Catalogue of the Library of the Royal Commonwealth Society (London, 1975), p. 134 expresses doubt as to whether he was entitled to the prefix "Honourable". The Manuscript Catalogue ... also indicates that: "It has for many years been linked with Duncan Mc Gillivary's 'Journal', but speculation is fruitless without an expert study of the geographical names used".
