General note:

Beginning in 1887 long distance telephones lines were constructed in Manitoba but progress was slow in rural areas. In 1908 the Manitoba government acquired the telephone system. This map shows government pole lines, government lines on railway poles, exchanges, connecting offices and toll offices. This map originally appeared in a 1925 Department of the Interior publication entitled: Manitoba, Canada: Its Development and Opportunities and was reprinted in the Historical Atlas of Manitoba by J. Warkentin and R. Ruggles.
