Illus: The Indan fort Sasquesahanok; 12.0 x 16.0. The harbour of Annapolis Royal; 10.5 x 17.3; 1:158,400. A map of ye mouth of Mississippi and Mobile Rivers &c.; 13.0 x 17.3; 1 inch to 10 English Leagues. Decorative cartouche surrounds title and dedication.
This large map was originally publishe in two sheets and shows an area extending from Newfoundland to the Gulf of California and from the Yucatan Peninsula and the West Indies to James Bay. This large map, originally published in two sheets, was made in response to De L'Isle's map of 1718. On it, Moll calls upon English noblemen, gentlemen and merchants interested in Carolina to note the "Incrouchements" of the French map on their "Properties" and on the land of their Indian allies (Cumming, 43). The map is based on numerous manuscript sources by a number of people to whom Moll gives credit. The Great Lakes and the western area are based on Lahontan. The map appeared in Moll's atlas The World Described which went through several editions.
This map is the third state of the first edition and first appeared in a copy of: The World Described published sometime between 1730 and 1732. The N.M.C. holds three other copies of this state.(See Note 1).
