William Berry began issuing separate sheet maps circa 1680 in London. For the most part he copied the works of other cartographers in this case Nicolas Sanson. Actually Berry probably used as a base the 1674 Jaillot map. Berry made numerous changes on the map including adding the Strait of Avian, closing the west side of Hudson's Bay and changing the configuration of Baffin Island. Berry also adds numerous place names and changes others. The map was published as a separate sheet but in 1689 Berry assembled an untitled atlas of maps he had published between 1680 and 1689, this map was included. The N.M.C. holds only one copy of the Berry map however the collection also holds several editions of the same or similar map by Jaillot. The map was republished, in slightly amended forms, many times between 1674 and 1719 by a number of publishers.
