Map shows the extent of Kingston's built-up area by the mid-nienteenth century. Wharves are named, buildings blocked in, principal buildings and industries are named, lots are numbered, ward divisions are oultined in both colour and broken line. Red manuscript colouring has been added to indicate military holdings; a blue line outlines a recent government purchase. Map bears the stamp of the "Commanding Rl. Engineer's Office Canada No. 242."
