The Tremaines were very active in the production of Ontario maps from the 1850's through the 1860's. It is probable that this map, one of a series on Ontario, was published around 1862. All of the townships were named. Included with the inset map of the counties of North Monaghan and Otonabee is a "List of Subscribes" which gives the name, lot and concression numbers and area in which the man lived. In many cases his occupation is also listed.
