General note:

In 1841 it was decided that Kingston should have a municipal building. Plans were drawn by the architect, George Browne. Part of the basement was to serve as the police establishment. The rear wing of the building known as the Shambles was destroyed by fire in 1865. A modified version of the Shambles without the tower was later rebuilt and serves today as the police station. This plan showa various rooms and cells that served as the original police station. Information from Angus, The Old Stones of Kingston and Mika, Mosaic of Kingston.
