Short film which begins with a postman delivering mail. He enters the apartment of a fat woman and begins to flirt with her. She is not receptive to his advances and is about to throw him out when he shows her a calendar indicating that it is New Year's Day. Her attitude changes and she becomes playful. [There exists here a gap in this copy of the film]. He leaves her apartment and heads upstairs. He knocks at the door of another apartment, enters and hands a letter to an elderly man who is seated at a table. The man reads it and bursts out laughing. The postman holds up a calendar showing January 1912 and hands it to the man. Still ecstatic, the man has his servant bring a bottle of wine and then gives the postman both a monetary tip and a glass of wine. The postman thanks him and leaves. He heads up another flight of stairs and enters another apartment, this time inhabited by five young ladies who mob him as soon as he enters to see if he has any mail for them. He hands letters to each of the girls, who then allow him to kiss them. An older woman, likely the girls' mother, enters and asks the postman to kiss her too. This he does with great reluctance and then bids the girls adieu and leaves. Heading up another flight, he enters an apartment inhabited by a surly-looking man and hands him a letter. The man goes wild with rage. The postman hands him the calendar. but the man throws both it and him out the door. Picking himself up, the postman heads up to the top floor and enters a cramped, dingy apartment and hands the occupant a letter. The man's wife lies sick in the bed at one side of the room. The man is disheartened by the news. The postman reads the letter and is taken with pity for the poverty-stricken couple. He offers the man his purse, containing the money he had received earlier. The man refuses, so the postman leaves it on a chair and departs. Returning to the fat woman's apartment, the postman is questioned by her. He shows that his pockets are empty and explains why. She approves of his good deed and allows him to kiss her.
