General note:

This plan of the first Louisbourg lighthouse as it was when completed, shows an elevation and cross-section of the structure, as well as a floor plan of the lantern room and the ground floor. The use of wood in the lantern housing clearly shown here was partly responsible for the fire which destroyed the upper part of the structure in 1738. The reconstructed lighhouse, opened in 1738, used no wood. The plan shows the bronze basin which held the oil for the flame. The arrangement of the many wicks int he basin is also shown.
