The 2000 federal election was held on November 27th, resulting in a third consecutive victory for the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC). Paul Martin not only won his riding of LaSalle-Émard for the fourth time, he enjoyed his largest margin of victory yet, winning 65.75% of the vote.

The sub-series is made up of a mixture of material dealing with Paul Martin's individual election preparations, and a smaller selection of material dealing with preparations of the LPC.

Leading up to the 2000 federal election, it was uncertain if the Right Honourable Jean Chretien would step down as Prime Minister of Canada, and as Leader of the LPC, which he did not end up doing until December of 2003. As a result, there is an overlap of material and of inclusive dates in the files dealing with the 2000 Election Campaign and the 2003 Leadership Campaign. Researchers interested in material relating to one particular campaign should consult both sub-series.
