Series consists of personal and professional records of George (Jurij) Jeletzky, including government-issued documents, manuscripts, research notes, correspondence and photographs. The manuscripts include his Ph.D. thesis in geology and other geological articles on the natural resources of Ukraine and Eastern Russia.

The majority of the photographs in the series are in an album that document a trip taken by Jeletzky to the west coast of Vancouver Island in 1949 with the Geological Survey of Canada, showing views of Esperanza Inlet, the town of Zeballos, the Kapoose River and Porritt Creek. Other photos consist of identification portraits of Jeletzky in government-issued documents, as well as some family photos.

The cartographic record consists of a geological map, hand-coloured by George Jeletzky, of the region of Sumy, Ukraine.

Jeletzky, George A, 1915-1988 : George (Jurij) Alexander Jeletzky was born in Penza, Russia, on June 18, 1915, the son of Alexei Romanov, a military medical doctor. In 1930 he was adopted by Prof. Alexander Jeletzky, from whom he inherited his last and middle name. George Jeletzky received his Master's Degree in Geology from Kiev State University in 1938. From 1938 to 1941, he was enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Geology at the Academy of Science in Kiev, with research interests in geology and paleontology. He worked as a geologist at the Kiev Geological Institute from 1941 until 1943, when he was evacuated by the Germans to Krakow, where he worked for the Gmelin Institute before moving to Berlin in 1944. After the defeat of the Nazis, he held various jobs with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in Bayreuth, Germany. He immigrated with his family to Canada in 1948 and was employed by the Department of Mines with the Geological Survey of Canada, where he worked until his retirement. In 1979 he became the first recipient of the Elkanah Billings Medal by the Geological Association of Canada for his achievements in the field of Canadian Paleontology.

Jeletzky married Tamara Bohatirchuk on 23 June 1941, and together they had four children. He died on 4 December 1988 in Ottawa.
