The item consists of one Steinway piano from Steinway and Sons, New York, NY, built in 1945, measuring nine feet across and weighing 1,325 lb. Glenn Gould discovered it backstage at the Eaton Auditorium in Toronto in 1960 and thereafter, used the instrument for the majority of his recordings. Items also preserved and related to the instrument are various extra parts such as hammers and hammer rests.
