This work is a colour offset lithograph from a set entitled, "Gallery of Canadian History," Portfolio # 1, produced by the Confederation Life Association. John David (J.D.) Kelly and Thomas Mitchell were among the painters commissioned by Confederation Life to produce works documenting pivotal moments in the development of Canada. A number of these paintings appeared on calendars issued by Confederation Life, as well as being reproduced as offset lithographs for a Centennial project entitled, "Canadian Historical Prints from the Confederation Life Collection."
This image was used to illustrate Confederation Life's 1955 annual calendar.
