Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers : The Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers (CASLT) is a professional, non-profit organization representing second language teachers in Canada. Established in 1970, it has grown from a small voluntary organization to represent over 4,000 second language teachers nation-wide. CASLT's governance structure includes an Annual General Meeting, an elective Board of Directors, and a National Council comprising representatives from each province and territory. Its mission is to promote the advancement of second language learning and teaching in Canada by creating opportunities for professional development, and by encouraging research and the sharing of ideas among second language educators. CASLT develops teaching resources for second language teachers, hosts conferences, provides advanced training, conducts research on second language issues, and advocates on behalf of its members. Some of the research projects it has piloted in recent years include the National Core French Study, Multiculturalism Education project, Intensive French, the Status of Language Teachers and Programs survey, and the FSL Teacher Survey. It also publishes the magazine "Reflexions" and manages the language resource portal, www.LangCanada.ca, in partnership with the Department of Canadian Heritage.
