Canada. Canadian Armed Forces. 4 Wing Headquarters, CFB Cold Lake : 4 Wing's mission is to "train, deploy and support world-class tactical fighter forces to meet Canada's needs." To accomplish this, 4 Wing is a complex organization with many flying, specialist and support units. Of the flying units, 410 Squadron is the CF-18 operational training squadron. There are also two front-line deployable operational CF-18 Squadrons - 416 and 441.

The Cold Lake Air Weapons Range is the only tactical bombing range in Canada. Vast quantities of unrestricted airspace with an absence of civilian air traffic and more than 100 target complexes including seven airfields make it highly attractive to foreign air forces. Fighter crews from all over the world use the range annually during Exercise Maple Flag.

A recent addition to the Wing is the Air Force Tactical Training Centre. It is responsible for the annual Maple Flag exercise and coordinating the deployment of other units outside 4 Wing to take advantage of the Wing's excess training capacity.

417 Combat Support Squadron is a composite unit flying the CH-146 Griffon helicopter on base rescue and national secondary SAR duties.

Major specialist units include 4 Airfield Engineering and 4 Combat Service Support Squadrons that support the deployable squadrons in the field. 1 Air Maintenance Squadron provides second and third-line maintenance on the CF-18 and 10 Field Technical Training Unit trains Aircraft maintenance technicians to the high standards required of a modern air force.

Each of these units, along with the normal services of Wing Operations, Logistics and Administration play an important part in the busy 4 Wing operation.
