This scrapbook mainly contains newspaper clippings cut out and glued onto the folio, or whole sheets folded and held in with paper straps. Those extracts glued down are usually from English papers (especially the Illustrated London News and the Times) and were probably collected by Mrs. Acland. The folded sheets are Canadian and American papers from Montreal, London (Ontario), Owen Sound and Boston and were probably mailed or brought to Mrs. Acland by her husband. He often mentions in his letters that he is sending clippings and also instructs her to keep the articles from the London papers because they gave such through accounts of the tour.

In addition to the clippings are some fifty illustrations, mostly taken from the Illustrated London News, which depict the central events of the tour. Among the other ephemera from the trip are programs and menus. The programs include ones from an exposition at Montreal, a concert at Hamilton and an operatic evening at Philadelphia. The menus describe the fare served at a picnic at the Chaudière Falls, at a dinner in Quebec City, at the inauguration of the Victoria Bridge and at a breakfast at the Tremont Hotel, Chicago. There is also a multi-paged printed program of the Prince's intinerary for the Quebec-Ontario leg of the tour, with details of the suite's requirements and the names of those charged with meeting them.

Of special note is a photograph mounted on card and glued to the inside front cover. It is a salt print of the Suspension Bridge on the St. John River, New Brunswick (ca. 1860) and bears a blind stamp on the mount which reads "Ellison's Photographs, Market Place, St. John N.B.".

Acland, Sarah, 1815-1878 : Sarah Acland was born Sarah Cotton in 1815. She was the daughter of William Cotton and Sarah Lane. She married Sir Henry Wentworth Acland on July 14th, 1846. She died on October 25th, 1878.

On the cover is printed "Prince of Wales. Newspaper Extracts" and on the spine is printed "Tour of the Prince of Wales in North America". The recto of the front fly-leaf is inscribed in pen and brown ink: Sarah Acland / [illegible] 1860.
