The sub-series contains a great variety of works for smaller instrumental ensembles with or without instrumental or vocal solo parts, including chamber music such as quartets, quintets, and trios with Classical formal features, and other works such as duos of same or different instruments. Duos in this sub-series exclude solo instruments or voice with accompaniment. Works in these genres constitute an area of predilection for the composer, and include River of Fire, for oboe d'amore and harp, awarded the Jules-Leger Chamber Music Prize in 1984. This work and others in the sub-series comprise exquisitely detailed art work and finely-wrought notation.
