The series comprises some sixty selected compositions by Brian Cherney, including some of the most important works in his calatogue to date. These include the prize-winning River of Fire; large-scale works such as Illuminations and Transfiguration; several commissioned works, and compositions in a great variety of instrumental and vocal genres. The series also includes worksheets, research material, sketches, fair copies, and Canadian Music Centre copies of the original manuscripts for these works. Some of the compositions (such as River of Fire; Trois petites pièces désséchées...en forme de sandwich; Die klingende Zeit) include artwork, and several of Cherney's scores incorporate extremely fine handwork and in some places, trompe-l'oeil effects and iconography.
