The Advisory Committee on Trade (ACT) was established in 1998 as part of SCC internal corporate restructing and falls under the operations of the Intergovernmental Affairs and Trade Branch (IGAT) of the Standards Council of Canada. The committee consists of a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and sixteen members appointed by the SCC Appointments Committee.

The committee is responsible for advising and making recommendations to the Governing Council on matters related to internal and international trade, including trade agreements such as North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). It prioritizes sectors and markets in which Canada could take a leadership role in standardization matters affecting international trade, provides advice on policy concerning Canadian participation in standards organizations, and contributes to Canadian positions involving standards development and conformity assessment.

ACT is also responsible for establishing and overseeing task groups and Canadian advisory committees including ISO/DEVCO, which examines standards issues in developing countries.

This sub-series consists of ACT meeting minutes, agendas and other supporting documents distributed to committee members, and also includes files created by ACT sub-committees, working groups and task groups.
