The Advisory Committee on Standards for Consumers (ACC) was created by the SCC Governing Council in 1972 as part of SCC mandate to benefit the health, safety and welfare of the public, and to assist and protect consumers. ACC was responsible for the supervision and direction of Canadian participation in the work of the ISO/COPOLCO [ISO Committee on Consumer Policy] and the International Standards Committee for Consumer Affairs (ISCA). It also dealt with questions related to protection of consumers as well as information and training in consumer standardization matters, endorsed formation of CSA Consumer Advisory Panels to increase consumer participation in SWO technical committees, and produced the SCC newsletter "DIALOGUE". The committee was disbanded in 1994 as a result of SCC corporate restructuring.
The Advisory Committee on a Standard Information System (ACSIS) was created by the SCC Governing Council on June 6, 1976 as part of SCC initiatives to foster and promote voluntary standardization, and to promote co-operation and the exchange of information on standards and standardization. ACSIS was responsible for the general supervision and direction of Canadian participation in the work of the ISO Standing Committee on Scientific and Technical Information (ISO/INFOCO) and made recommendations on the development of the Standards Information Service (SIS) in line with the requirements laid down for participation by the International Information Network on Standards (ISONET). The committee was disbanded in 1994 as part of SCC corporate restructuring.
This accession consists of the Advisory Committee on a Standards Information Service (ACSIS) and the Advisory Committee on Standards for Consumers (ACC) files created and/or maintained by the Standards Council of Canada. It includes general correspondence and meeting minutes.
