The fonds documents the business activities of George S. Wegg. It contains files for which George S. Wegg acts as a philatelic agent at auction sales for its clients. The fonds also includes few personal files related to his philatelic activities.

George S. Wegg, 1910-1992 : George S. Wegg was born on September 22, 1911 in St. Thomas (Ontario). He moved to Toronto in 1920 where he was educated at Upper Canada College. After serving in the air force during the Second World War, he devoted his life to philately as a stamp dealer and stamp consultant. He died in Toronto in December 14, 1992 at 82. He was married to Lorna and had two sons, Stephen and Peter.

Interested in philately at an early age, he became the first President of the Toronto Junior Stamp Collectors Club in the 30s. In 1935, he joined the Toronto Stamp Collectors' Club where he met Jim Sissons. After the Second World War, George and Jim established the first major auction house in Canada. In the 60s, he left his partner to start his own stamp business under the name George S. Wegg Limited. As President, he earned a good reputation among stamp dealers and philatelist. He retired from full activities when he sold his business in 1981. He became a consultant for its long-time clients and a Canadian stamp agent for Christie's-Robson Lowe in Canada.

He also served in various official capacities in many stamp associations. Among them, the British North America Philatelic Society, the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada, the Canadian Stamp dealers' Association and the Philatelic Specialists Society of Canada.
