Retired Broadcaster

My parents brought me through Hungary's barbed-wire border at age 11, and chose Canada for our future. How grateful I am that they did not opt for other available destinations! This country- in particular its national broadcasting- fostered my creativity, daring and sense of service.

I have originated programs and managed stations in many locations. My longest-lasting contribution, CBC Radio's Cross Country Checkup, has now for forty years literally put Canadians together to discuss their preoccupations. While directing Radio Canada International, I arranged for Canada to speak daily and directly to China in Mandarin and the Middle East in Arabic. Our approach to public broadcasting is unique; we must continue to cherish it.

In retirement, I am a busy volunteer and a freelance translator (from French and Hungarian to English).
