Watercolour by an unknown artist depicting an oval image of the H.B.M.S. Shannon on the water. The large frigate with its vast sails fills the picture space - in the distance, on the right, another ship is visible.

This ship likely represents the third HMS Shannon, a 36-gun frigate of the British Royal Navy built at Frindsbury on the River Medway on the Thames Estuary. She was completed in September 1803 during the Napoleonic Wars. On December 10, 1803, just three months after she was completed, the ship was lost on Tatihou Island, near Barfleur, directly under an enemy battery.

The HMS Shannon that battled the Chesapeake in the famous battle of 1813 was not launched until 1806.
