This fonds consists of correspondance received by William H. Cooper from his friend Edward Forbes Bush, between 1966 and 2007. Born in Orangeville, Ontario, Mr. Bush received his primary and secondary education in Toronto. In 1942, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada and Britain, reaching the rank of Flying Officer. He was discharged from the R.C.A.F. in November 1945 and the following September enrolled in the honours history programme at Cambridge. Upon graduation, he held various positions in numerous locations. He taught in England, briefly returned to the R.C.A.F., worked with the Department of Transport as a radio operator and from 1960-1968 was an archivist at the Public Archives of Canada. In September 1968, he began working with Parks Canada as an archivist and historian. In 1969, he obtained his Master of Arts degree in history from Carleton University. In February 1987, Mr. Bush retired from Parks Canada and died in 2007.

The letters cover the period between 1966 and 2007 and a wide range of topics, including subjects of professional interest (railways, steamship lines, lighthouses, canals, Robert W. Service, etc.) and reflections on Bush's various writing and publishing projects. Also covered are family life, office politics, travel, religion, Canadian political life, international affairs, history and historical literature and reflections on homosexuality.

It consists of 127 letters. Some are in pen holograph, others typed.

Cooper, William H., 1935-2009 : William H. (Bill) Cooper was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 27, 1935. He grew up in Ottawa and spent most of his life in Toronto where he was for many years an archivist with the Province of Ontario Archives, specializing in architectural history and drawings. He was an avid collector of historic recordings and videos. In the 1970's he was a member of the University of Toronto Homophile Association. He died in Toronto on June 4, 2009, of a brain tumour.
