Cartoon concerning the Battle of Omdurman (Sept. 2, 1898) in the Sudan, where Khalifa was defeated. The battle was led by Major-General Herbert Kitchener, 'Sirdar' or commander-in-chief of the Anglo-Egyptian army. The sirdar is seen here sweeping up a "grease spot" where Khalifa was "smashed". He is greeted by the British general Gordon who carries a Bible and a basket of "British Rule", containing "Just Laws", "Trade", etc.
