This sub-sub-series contains some of the working papers of Peter Donolo, Communications Director in the Office of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien from 1993 to 2003. Responsible for training Unit staff who oversaw the global communication strategy of the government and the Cabinet, Peter Donolo also had special responsibility for the English-language media.

It contains correspondence, memos, communication plans, news releases, press reviews, media monitoring reports, briefing notes, briefing books, briefing agendas for the Prime Minister, talking points, Question Period cards, and various reference and working documents (i.e. lists, timetables, phone memos, rough drafts, etc.), which are often annotated.

This sub-sub-series documents the procedures used to survey and prepare the groundwork for communications during important moments and events (i.e. unveiling of budget, etc.). It also documents various political events which, often due to their controversial nature, could adversely affect the image of the Prime Minister, the Cabinet or the government, either in the House of Commons or in the media.

The Communications Director's correspondence provides a qualitative record of his powers, concerns, requests received, and network of contacts (i.e. M.P.s, Senators, PMO exempt political staff, executive assistants to the Prime Minister and to Ministers, policy communications staff, producers at Canada's major television networks, communication firms, editing and production firms, university chancellors and professors, lawyers, etc.).
