Recto, l.r.: The Billings House, River Road looking north-east, showing / frame building constructed in 1814 by Bradish Billings.
Inside cover, left: At the turn of the century, this section of the first frame / building erected in Gloucester Township was still standing. / Constructed by Bradish Billings in 1814 on the South side / of the River Road at Billings Bridge, it was built of sawn / boards floated down the Rideau River from Merrickville. / The original double chimney is a landmark in Ottawa / today.
