File consists of letters written by the Minto Club's members to Lord Minto and to his wife Mary Caroline Grey (pet name "Rolly"), sister of Earl Grey who was Governor General of Canada from 1904 to 1911. The letters mention the decisions made to found the club, how to organize skating competitions, skating tests, the rules to become a member, the results of the competitions and the names of competitors such as Louis Rubenstein and Meigher who were international champions at that time. Louis Rubenstein was also president of the Amateur Skating Association of Canada, a position he held until 1930.

The Minto Skating Club was founded in 1903 during his term as Governor General of Canada. Membership was composed of 15 gentlemen and a few ladies, most being members of the Rideau Skating Club organized about 1885. Some of the letters are sent to his wife "Rolly". She was involved closely with the foundation of the club and, later, all of her daughters became members when women were admitted to full membership. Skating sessions were held once or twice a week on the outdoor rink at Government House. Members were required to pass a skating test.
