Series contains notes, drafts and full typescripts of Amabile's works of poetry and contains personal and professional correspondence (with friends, fellow writers, reading venues, publishers and grant related correspondence, for example). Correspondence and worksheets were kept on an almost continuous basis together by the creator, although occassionally correspondence was separated from the manuscripts. Therefore a relationship between correspondence and manuscripts or drafts worked on or received at a particular time is evident in this series. The works represented are primarily Rumours of Paradise/Rumours of War, Tasting the Dark (substantial revisions for this work are included) and the long poem Dancing in the Mirror (earlier called Durée), and "Descant: A Meta-Sonnet" and the series also includes dismantled and annotated copies of Amabile's earlier works. The correspondence is a mixture of personal correspondence and correspondence with other writers along with professional correspondence (with publishers, reading venues). Includes significant amount of editing correspondence, a review and a short story. Occasional drawings by Amabile's son Evan and lists for building projects are interposed.

This series also includes several groups of letters which Amabile chose to include and which relate to early periods of his life, these are: correspondence with Patrick Masi (Amabile's uncle) which was formerly in Masi's possession before his death, letters between Mhari McIntosh and Amabile and Amabile's mother returned to him after his mother's death, copies of letters with John MacKenzie from the early 1980's and letters from Amabile's highschool principal from the 1950's. There are several other unchronological insertions: Amabile's Book of Drunks, notes for an unwritten series of poems created in the 1980's (?) and a file of assorted typescripts which touch on essays and the novel Blind Invention, as well as poetry.
