New Westminister Pilotage Authority (Canada) : In 1879, on the recommendation of the Minister of Marine and Fisheries, and under the provisions of `An Act respecting Pilotage and the Acts amending the same', the Governor General ordered that `a separate Pilotage district be formed for the Electoral districts of Yale and New Westminster in the Province of British Columbia' which was to `embrace all the ports, harbours and rivers within the limits of such electoral districts' (Order in Council 528 3/4, Government House, approved April 15, 1879).

The Chairman and Commissioners were appointed by Order in Council on the recommendation of the Minister of Marine (later the Minister of Transport). The Authority was responsible for providing pilot service for the port and surrounding coast of new Westminster, British Columbia.

In 1904, by way of Order in Council 236, the Pilotage District of Yale and New Westminster was divided into two; the more southerly district was designated the New Westminster Pilotage District and embraced all the waters north of the International Boundary line, east of mid-channel of the Gulf of Georgia and South of the North boundary of the Electoral District of New Westminster, prolonged westwardly into the Gulf of Georgia. The more northerly district, the Vancouver Pilotage District, embraced all the remainder of the waters formerly comprised in the Yale and New Westminster District and was governed by the Pilotage Board appointed for the District.

Bill 105, 1914, established the Minister of Marine and Fisheries as the Pilotage Authority, and in December, 1919, by Order in Council, the Pilotage District of British Columbia was established. It became part of the British Columbia Pilotage Authority (now the Pacific Pilotage Authority), a Crown Corporation, in 1970 (P.C. 1970-994).
