This series consists of sound recordings of oral history interviews with Brittain by journalist Brian Nolan for a biography (not published). The interviews, recorded in 1981-1982, span 30 years of Brittain's career (1950s to 1980s) and provide detailed insights into his association with the National Film Board and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, his personal life and the creative gifts which earned him international recognition. Canada's social and cultural past is examined as Brittain describes the issues and prominent figures portrayed in his award-winning documentaries.

This series also consists of two unedited mute films. One depicts Donald Brittain waiting for the subway in Toronto, the other during a conversation. There is also the NFB documentary film entitled Donald Brittain filmmaker.
