The Assistant Deputy Minister of Finance sub-series consists of correspondence, speech notes, reference material, and photographs related to Johnson's position as Assistant Deputy Minister of Finance and his responsibility for federal provincial relations (1964-1968). As Assistant Deputy Minister of Finance, in the Lester B. Pearson government, A. W. Johnson played a key-role in the creation of the Canada Pension Plan, universal Medicare, a fund for students, and the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism, which led to the foundation of a bilingual civil service.
