Sound recording of a programme in the radio series SOLO featuring a recital of songs by the mezzo-soprano Mona Kelly, accompanied on piano by John Newmark. An announcer introduces the programme, provides biographical information on Kelly, and introduces the works performed. The first songs are lieder composed by Johannes Brahms: La nuit de mai = Die Mainacht (op. 43, no. 2); Serenade = Ständchen (op. 106, no. 1); Mon sommeil devient de plus en plus fébrile = Immer leiser wird mein Schlummer (op. 105, no. 2). These are followed by three songs from the Spanisches Liederbuch composed by Hugo Wolf: Dans l'ombre de mes cheveux = In dem Schatten meiner Locken; Et maintenant, Marie, avançons = Nun wandre, Maria; La magie de la nuit. The programme concludes with Trois chansons de Bilitis composed by Claude Debussy on poems by Pierre Louÿs, consisting of: La flûte de Pan; La chevelure; Le tombeau des naïades. Following the final announcements, there is an unannounced performance of Deux Arabesques, No. 2, Allegretto scherzando, for solo piano (Debussy), no doubt intended as play-out music, followed briefly by studio noise. <30mn 42s>
