Series consists of files of the exploratory cost analysis study which led to the 1970 report published by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) entitled, "An exploratory cost analysis of some Canadian universities : the report on the study of the costs of university programmes in Canada".

The study was undertaken to facilitate a better allocation of the federal grants through the use of the cost-study data which would permit a refinement of the weighting formulae proposed in the Bladen Report, and to present the post-secondary institutions with comparable figures. The cost study was done for the academic year 1966-1967. The study group was appointed by the AUCC, the Canadian Association of University Business Officers, and the Canadian Association of University Teachers.

Series contains correspondence, guidelines and procedures, individual cost study reports submitted by Canadian universities and colleges, and drafts of the final report.
