"Larry" MacKenzie, former professor of International and Canadian Constitutional Law at the University of Toronto (1927-1940), president of the University of New Brunswick (1940-1944) and president of the University of British Columbia (1944-1962), by author Peter Stursberg, about: Norman A.M. MacKenzie; his family background; his education; travelling West on a harvest excursion train circa 1909; his grandfather the Reverend Donald MacRae; Bob Ryan; forming a regiment of mounted rifles in 1914; Mackenzie's experiences during World War I; the Canadian Mounted Rifles regiment during World War I; the 85th Canadian Infantry Battalion circa 1918; Colonel J.L. Ralston; MacKenzie continuing his education at Dalhousie University and Harvard University; his scholarship to Cambridge University; his career; his appointment to the Senate as an Independent Liberal in 1966; his acquiring the nickname 'Larry', his appointment and experiences as mediator of the St. Lawrence Seaway workers' strike in 1966; the St. Lawrence Seaway workers' strike of June 1966 and the settlement of the strike; Jack Nicholson; and MacKenzie's views on and work in the Senate. <2h 3mn>
