Attributions and conjectures:

Attribution to artist is on stylistic grounds, especially see similar calligraphy in other Brock stamp design by Arnoti , note the number 5 ; attribution also based on information found in the Post Office Department fonds.

Physical description note:

Design depicts reversed profile portait of Brock likely copied after William Berczy / now thought to be Geritt Schipper portrait on the right, and small map of Queenston showing Niagara River on the left ; Design has faux-perforated border around image created with black ink or gouache ; Typography layout : 5 cents.
