General note:

Karsh's portrait presents a serene Islamic monarch, photographed between the meetings which resulted in the founding of the United Nations. Karsh later recounted that the Arab leader explained his silence during the long negotiations: "Public speaking is like the sand of the desert: it blows constantly without doing any good."
