Scope and content: Sub-series consists of contact prints, proofs and prints documenting the CBC Halifax television program GAZETTE, a weekly variety program produced between 1954 and 1973. The prints consist of photo stills, mainly promotional studio shots of various members of the cast, taken during production of GAZETTE. As the program frequently worked outside the studio, many of the photographs are taken on location. Included are photos of the CBC mobile unit and film crews; sketches including several costume dramas, in particular, shots taken of the episode BAD DAY AT BRIGHTWOOD, Brightwood being a local golf course, with the men in plus-fours and the ladies in Gibson Girl hats and frocks; various fashion shows staged in several corners of the county, including Peggy's Cove and Oak Island; studio sketches ranging from a parody of Old Father Time with Rube Hornstein as Father Time and Leigh Sarty as Little New Year "1963", complete with diapers and dated ribbon, to a visit to the set of The DOWNEASTERS; and miscellaneous photos of the formal GAZETTE line-up, made up of Rube Hornstein, Lloyd McInnes and Don Tremaine. Also included are b&w negatives and colour slides of a GAZETTE trip to Germany, graphics by artist Gerry Roach.
Sub-series also consists of photographs depicting the Glenn Sarty Quartet, and several head shots of Glenn Sarty, photographs of a Canadian Armed Forces Band performing on an unidentified CBHT program, and a photograph of Glenn Sarty and Paul Soles taken during the filming of an episode of TAKE 30. Photographers and studios represented in this sub-series include Wright studios (Halifax); Paul Smith Photography (Toronto) and Maurice Crosby Photography (Halifax). The majority of photographs are unidentified.
