This sub-sub-series consists mainly of records concerning foreign trips, visits and events requiring Prime Minister Chrétien to travel on official business (i.e. the Prime Minister's briefing books, visit agendas prepared by his Chief of Staff, itineraries, memos, speaking notes, and useful reference material on a range of visit-related issues). The sub-sub-series also contains the same types of record generated for official visits to Canada by heads of state and foreign diplomats.

This sub-sub-series sheds light on Canada's international relations and its representation and influence on the world scene, especially within organizations such as Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the G-7, the G-8, the United Nations (UN), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), etc. It also helps illustrate the importance placed on trade missions by the Chrétien government (i.e. Team Canada, etc.).

Lastly, these records shed light on the Chief of Staff's role in organizing and planning the Prime Minister's travel.
