\sl300\slmult0DA VINCI'S CITY HALL is a multi-genre procedural prime-time series that has evolved from the hit drama DA VINCI'S INQUEST. The series, inspired by the work of former Vancouver mayor Larry Campbell, opens a new chapter in the life of forthright and strong-minded Dominic Da Vinci. Well known as a man who advocates changes, and challenges the status quo, Da Vinci has been elected Mayor of the City of Vancouver in a convincing win. His venture into city politics, however, might upset those who have held Vancouver in its grasp for the last one hundred years. The series expands its focus from the legal, medical and police procedural to include politics and scenes behind the closed doors where the deals that shape the City of Vancouver are made and broken, and where various interest groups manoeuvre their way to achieve their positions of power and influence. This episode begins as Mayor Da Vinci meets with Paula Hunter, the head of a sex trade workers' alliance, at the site of a proposed red light zone. Paula agrees to support the plan and, with federal and provincial financial help already secured, Da Vinci gives the go-ahead to establish the zone. The red zone, however, is fiercely opposed by Chief Jacobs and neighbourhood community groups. Da Vinci decides to press the Police Board for an early performance review of the Chief's tenure. Jacobs, ready for his bit of political maneuvering, enlists the executive of the police union, Earl Sweeney, to generate positive press for the police. Later, when Jacobs eventually realizes what Da Vinci is up to with the red light zone and the Police Board, he makes plans for his own counter-attack. Out on the streets, Ferris and her subordinates prepare another grow-op bust only to find their suspect's place completely clean and empty, thanks to a Fire Department inspection notice. Upset, Ferris pays a visit to the firefighters requesting more collaboration in the future. In on-going investigations, Detective Carter gets a lead in the gay-bashing case when a high school student discloses information about rumours circulating around school. Based on this testimony, the police arrest sixteen-year-old Colin Rainier who, in turn, implicates two teenage girls. In the missing kids case, Leary gets information that the two boys, Dennis and Garth, were involved with a former radio host who was faced with pedophilia charges. <44mn 50s>
